1. Capture a Screenshot

You can capture a screenshot if you are not so tech-savvy to look for any separate methods to save images from Google docs. I suggest you can download a free image editing tool such as Skitch.

Simply press the PrtSc button to capture the screen and use Ctrl +V to paste the captured screenshot on Skitch. Then, crop the image out and separate it.

Alternatively, you can use the Windows Snipping Tool to grab the screenshot. Here are the steps to use it.

  1. Press the Windows key + Shift + S.
  2. Then use the cursor to select the portion of the screen you wish to capture.
  3. Once the minimized screenshot appears in the corner of the screen, click on it.

The one issue with screenshots is at times, they may reduce the quality of the images.

2. Save the Image to Google Keep

There is an option Save to Keep available within Google Docs. You can use this option to save the images on a doc file to Google Keep.

This is possible as most Google services are connected, provided you use the same Gmail account to access them.

  1. Open the Google Docs file.
  2. Navigate to the image in the Google docs file.
  3. Right-click on the image > select View More Actions > click on Save to Keep.

  5. Right-click on the image and select Save Image As. The image will be saved to your PC.

3. Save the Google Doc File as a Web Page

When you save a Google Docs file as a webpage, the images contained within the docs file also get downloaded.

  1. Open the Google Docs file.
  2. Click on File > Download > Webpage.

  4. Once downloaded, simply right-click on the zip file and select Extract All.

4. Use Publish to Web to Save the Images from Google Docs 

One of the common ways to download images from Google Docs is to publish the Google Doc file.

  1. Open the Google Docs file.
  2. Click on File > Share > click on Publish to Web.

  4. As you publish you will get a web link for that Google docs file.

  5. Copy and paste that link to a new browser tab to preview the published Google file.
  6. Go through the doc file and right-click on the image file. Select the option Save Image As to save the image to your PC. Do that for every image you want to download from that Google Doc file.

5. Use Web Browser Extensions to Save Images from Google Docs

If you prefer to have external tools to view, extract and save images from Google docs, that is very much possible. You can use the Chrome browser extension Google Docs Image Viewer.

  1. Integrate the plugin into your Chrome browser.

  3. Hover the cursor over the images present in the Google Docs file.
  4. The full-sized version of the image will show up in a new tab.
  5. Right-click on the image and select Save Image As to download the image from the Google Doc file to your computer.
