Longest Movies On Amazon Prime

Are you searching for the longest movies on Amazon Prime? If you are a movie lover, chances are you have Amazon Prime. The streaming service has tons of movies and TV shows for you to watch. Sometimes, however, the selections can be a little overwhelming. 

I remember watching a movie for more than two hours the first time. It was an R-rated movie that I rented from a local video store. It was The Lord of the Rings and had a running time of 202 minutes. That was the longest movie I’d ever watched at the time, and it was a game changer for me. I went from popping in and out of movies to staying glued to the screen for a while. It was a great experience

Amazon Prime is a great platform for watching movies, and they have some of the longest movies available! Here are some of the longest movies on Amazon Prime.

1. Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021)

Starting off our list of the longest movies on Amazon Prime is this film that’s Nicknamed the Snyder Cut, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is the director’s cut of the 2017 theatrical superhero film Justice League. It is a direct sequel to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). It’s one of the longest movies I’ve seen personally, taking all of 242 minutes.

Thousands of years ago, Apokoliptian warlord Darkseid and his army of parademons attempted to take over the world using the mother boxes but were thwarted. In the present day, the death of Superman triggers the boxes to wake. Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman come together and are joined by a revived Superman to stop Darkseid’s lieutenant, Steppenwolf, from carrying out his master’s evil plan.

2. Avengers: Endgame (2019)

I mean, you can imagine the shock and heartache lots of people suffered! All of this madness is shown for all of 181 minutes, and it just happens to be one of the longest movies on Amazon Prime.

To find a way to reverse the damage, however, the Avengers must unite with old friends and allies, put aside all personal issues and differences, make sacrifices along the line and assemble once again to restore balance to the world. The events culminate in a final battle against their foes – the greatest they’ve ever faced.

3. Titanic (1997)

  • Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, Frances Fisher, Bernard Hill, Jonathan Hyde, Danny Nucci, David Warner, Bill Paxton.

Titanic is perhaps one of the most popular and greatest love stories displayed on the screen. It left a lot of people with tears streaming down their faces. The film follows 17-year-old Rose DeWitt Bukater as she boards the Titanic for its maiden voyage, along with her mother and her wealthy fiancé, with whom she has been forced into an engagement by her mother to improve their social standing.

Depressed by the way her life is, she attempts suicide but is stopped by Jack Dawson, a poor young artist also aboard the ship. The film tells the story of the love that was never meant to be as the ship and most of its passengers meet a tragic end on the waters of the Atlantic. It is one of the longest movies on Amazon Prime.

4. King Kong (2005)

At the height of the Great Depression, financially troubled filmmaker Carl Denham talked actress Ann Darrow along with Bruce Baxter and playwright Jack Driscoll into joining him in Singapore for the filming of a movie. Carl intends to go to the mysterious Skull Island, unknown to the unsuspecting crew.

Despite plans to change course, the ship gets lost in a fog and arrives at the Island where they meet the giant gorilla Kong and see other prehistoric animals. They eventually succeed in capturing the beast and ship him back to New York, to be put in chains and displayed to people. However, things don’t exactly go according to plan.

5. Cleopatra (1963)

Cleopatra follows Queen Cleopatra VII as she attempts to use the tensions in the Roman Empire to stabilize her kingdom. In 48 B. C., she seduces Julius Caesar after he triumphs over Pompey the great, and the affair results in a son. The seductress must have been thrilled.

However, after his return to Rome, Caesar dies before Cleopatra can join him, halting her plans. She turns her attention to his right-hand man Mark Antony, but Caesar’s heir, Octavian, wages war against the two of them. Cleopatra is a classic, and with a running time of over 4hours, it’s one of the longest movies on Amazon Prime.

6. The Green Mile (1999)

The Green Mile tells the story of a death row correctional officer Paul Edgecomb who is introduced to one of the convicts, the physically imposing but mild-mannered African American John Coffey. With a running time of 189 minutes, the green mile is one of the longest movies on Amazon Prime.

Coffey was sentenced to death for supposedly raping and murdering two young white girls. However, Paul doubts this after noticing John’s calm deposition, and this doubt grows as he begins to observe supernatural events following John’s arrival.

7. The Sound Of Music (1965)

The sound of music is a classic and one of the longest movies on Amazon Prime. It is a 1965 musical drama film based loosely on the von Trapp family that existed in real life. It tells the story of a free-spirited Austrian woman, Maria, training to become a nun. To somewhat tame her, the Mother Abbess sends her to the home of retired naval officer Captain Georg von Trapp to be a governess to his seven children.

Despite initial hostility from the Captain and his children, Maria’s good nature eventually wins them all over. She and the Captain fall in love, get married, and after losing their homeland to the Nazis, find a way to survive the times – together, of course.

8. Kill Bill (2003)

It follows Uma Thurman as The Bride/Black Mamba, described as “the deadliest woman in the world,” on her quest for revenge on the Deadly Vipers Association, a group she formerly belonged to.

In 1999, while pregnant and at her wedding rehearsal, The Bride is attacked by members of the Deadly Vipers Association and shot in the head, leaving her unconscious. Every other person present at the rehearsal is killed. She wakes up four years later, horrified to discover she is no longer pregnant, and sets out on her mission. She obtains a sword from the legendary swordsmith Hattori Hanzō and begins a one-woman mission to wreak havoc on those responsible for the massacre.

9. The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring (2001)

However, the Elves come together with men to battle Sauron and his army. They end up victorious and retrieve the ring. The Fellowship of the Ring has a run-time of 178 minutes, making it one of the longest movies on Amazon Prime.

Isildur becomes the new bearer of the ring, but he is killed, and the ring is lost for two centuries and a half until Gollum finds it and later by Bilbo, who then leaves it to Frodo, his nephew. This puts Sauron’s dark forces and those with allegiances to him on Frodo’s back. Furthermore, the only solution to this is to destroy the ring, and they form a fellowship consisting of Frodo, Gandalf, Merry, Sam, Pippin, Legolas, Boromir, Gimli, and Aragorn (Strider) in a bid to safely get the ring to the Mountain of Doom and destroy the ring in its fires.

10. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

The film is a sequel to the 2001’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and is the second installment in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and is one of the longest movies on Amazon Prime. It continues with the first film’s plot, with Frodo and the fellowship journeying to Mordor to destroy the One Ring. The second film cuts across different storylines as the fellowship had split when Frodo decided to head towards Mordor alone, taking only Sam with him.

Frodo and Sam are tailed by Gollum, a previous keeper of the One Ring, but he eventually turns to their guide. Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli go after Merry and Pippin to rescue them and end up in the war-torn Rohan, where they eventually reunite with a resurrected Gandalf and also team up with other allies to battle the evil wizard Saruman and Gollum secretly plan to betray Frodo, reclaiming the Ring for himself.

11. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)

It picks up where the previous film left off, with Frodo, Sam, and Gollum continuing their journey towards Mordor and Mount Doom to destroy the One Ring while the rest of the fellowship team up with their allies to battle Sauron’s forces at Minas Tirith. This film is the longest in the trilogy, with a runtime of 201 minutes; it is one of the longest movies on Amazon Prime.

The film follows Gollum’s backstory before returning to the present as Frodo, Sam, and Gollum head to Mordor, where Gollum tries to sow seeds of discord between friends. At the same time, Gandalf leads Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and Théoden, King of Rohan, to Isengard, where they reunite with Merry and Pippin and form a battle plan. The forces of good and evil come together one last time in an epic battle for the world’s fate.

12. Hamlet (1996)

It is the first unabridged film version of the Shakespearean play Hamlet, albeit updated to a 19th-century setting. It tells the story of Prince Hamlet after his father, King Hamlet of Denmark, passes away and the grief and anguish he feels upon discovering the role his uncle and his mother played in it. It is over 4hours long, making it one of the longest movies on Amazon Prime. i

The Prince comes home for his father’s funeral and is saddened to see his uncle quickly take the throne and hastily marry his father’s widow, Gertrude. Prompted by some supernatural events, Hamlet decides to put on an act to find out the truth about the death of his father. In the process, he commits an accidental murder which sets off a series of tragic and truly heartbreaking events.
