Pokémon Scarlet and Violet picnics

The Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Paldea region is home to some exciting new Pokémon, and it also ushers in some other thrilling new changes to how we understand and play Pokémon games. One thing we love to do is interact with our ‘mon, and while other entries in the franchise have mechanics like the campsite, Pokémon-amie, and more: Scarlet and Violet is home to a delightful and delicious new mechanic sure to fill up your hearts with happiness and your bellies with… food.

The Pokémon Scarlet and Violet picnics mechanic allows players to set up a bench, prepare some food, and share a tasty treat with all their cuddly creatures. It seems functionally quite similar to the Pokémon Sword and Shield campsites, but fittingly, there’s just something a bit more Mediterranean about a picnic, right? Let’s crack out a bowl of Smolivs and a few slices of cured Lechonk, and tuck into the guide.

For even more great guides on the latest Pokémon generation, be sure to read our articles covering Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Titan Pokémon, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Terastal Pokémon, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet co-op, and the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet legendaries.

Let’s tuck into the tapas of knowledge, the sharing platter of information, and the great big bowl of insight we like to call our Pokémon Scarlet and Violet picnics guide.

At the moment we don’t know exactly how eggs appear in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet picnics, but a trailer shows a player inspecting a basket next to the picnic, and being shocked to discover an egg in there. We presume players will have to have the two Pokémon necessary for breeding in their party, but we’ll update this guide once we have more information. Also, we hope that isn’t the same picnic basket the food is kept in.

What does cooking do in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet picnics?

While enjoying Pokémon Scarlet and Violet picnics, players can approach the bench and choose to prepare food. This is made up of ingredients that you can buy from shops in various areas, you then assemble the food themselves, with the quality of the food deciding the effectiveness of its boosts. Game Freak has confirmed that the boosts from food can include; increasing the likelihood of Pokémon of a certain type appearing in the wild, increasing the effectiveness of certain type moves in regular battles, and increasing the effectiveness of certain type moves in raid battles.

We don’t yet know if the effects of food are random, or decided by the ingredients you include when making the food, but we‘ll update this guide when we have more information.

Well, we have well and truly explored this picnic basket, and we’re left with nothing but crumbs until we get some more information when the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet release date finally arrives.
